Acadian Textiles - We will weave a collection of Acadian textiles and study the people and their history. The cloth was all woven on 2 shaft looms, using 10/2 or 20/2 unmercerized cotton for warp. Very simple cloth.
Beads and Interlacements - If you have ever been fascinated by these small points of glass and the various on- and off-loom weaving processes involved with them, this group may be for you. (recruiting members)
Beyond Plain Weave Garments - For those interested in weaving garment fabrics which are complex in nature. Samples and critiques twice a year.
Bobbin Lace - The goal is to use bobbin lace as a finished technique or embellishment for your weaving and an exchange of pictures and prickings of the finished project. Members should know how to do basic bobbin lace
Collapse, Pleat and Bump - It is possible to weave a piece of fabric that will take on an entirely different appearance once removed from the loom and finished, collapsing in upon itself, pleats, bumps - anything but flat. The Collapse, Pleat, and Bump Study Group will explore the different ways these effects can be achieved.
Computer Aided Design Exchange - An exchange of original drawdowns and designs - information on computer interfaced and dobby looms. Newsletters twice a year.
Computer Tools - Share methods of designing and drafting using weaving software and related programs. This is the place to ask questions and explore weaving related computer tools.
Crackle - For those interested in exploring and experimenting with the unique crackle weave structure. Quarterly newsletter, swatches twice a year.
Double Harness Weaving - A forum for the exchange of information relating to drawloom weaving. Members are encouraged to contribute to a quarterly newsletter.
Double Weave - An online study group, tackling two projects per year, for all levels of weavers with 4 to 24 plus shaft looms. Ingrid Boesel is the group's mentor. The group conducts message interchange through a Yahoo Listserv and has its own private website for drafts, descriptions, and photographs .
Early American Coverlets - This new study group is looking for weavers who are interested in research of 18th and 19th century American handwoven coverlets. The research is limited to coverlets with geometric patterns rather than Jacquard-woven coverlets. Activities include newsletters and draft and swatch exchanges.
Early American Handlooms - Old looms are beautiful. The many old looms that are out there are for the most part, uncatalogued and their histories undocumented. This needs to be done before the little history that is still known about them is lost. You do not need to own a historic loom to become a member of this study group.
Early Weaving Books And Manuscripts - A forum for those who love the challenge of early weaving drafts. Bimonthly newsletter, some with swatches.
Ecclesiastical Weaving - The group is open to all members interested in weaving for worship/personal spirituality.
Fine Threads Study Group - Weave a little finer than before for an October exchange of information and May sample exchange.
Gauze / Leno Study Group Karina Nielsen is now collecting interested members for a study group concentrating on gauze and leno weaves. Exchanges will be based on submission of WIF files and digital photos.
Jacquard Study Group - On-line study group with the goal of furthering individual knowledge and increasing participation in jacquard design and weaving.
Japanese Textiles - A forum for those interested in the design, techniques, history, and applications of Japanese textiles. Two newsletters per year, contribution required.
Kumihimo on the Marudai - To study braids made on the marudai. Samples to be exchanged twice a year.
Kumihimo on the Takadai - To study braids and braid making with the Takadai. Samples to be exchanged once a year. All levels of expertise welcome
Lace Weaves. - To deal with lace made on a loom, including the traditional lace weaves, hand-manipulated laces, and lacey fabrics made through denting.
Medieval Textiles - A study and reconstruction of medieval textiles. Sharing of information plus a sample exchange.
Sample Exchange - The Old Fashioned Way - Annual exchange of samples (at least 6 shafts) that can be woven on a treadle or table loom.
Sixteens - Sample exchange group, topics vary each year with a maximum of 16 shafts and 16 members.
Structure - A mentored group begining in April, 2006, which will be a one year focus on weave structure.
Tied Weaves - created so weavers of intermediate to Master skill levels can learn about and explore ways to expand and experiment with these versatile structures.
Twenty Four More or Less - Sample exchange once a year for 24 or more or less shafts.
